New Life SDA of Philadelphia Church - Origins

It was noted that a Seventh-day Adventist church did not exist on the east side of Broad Street in the Logan section of Philadelphia. Therefore, the idea was created by Pastors; Alfred Johnson, William Hall, and Charles Cheatham that a church should be formed in this area.

 

Both the name of the church and the initial officers were chosen at the first organizational meeting which was held at the North Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church at 16th and Oxford Streets.

Not having a church facility of our own, we rented from neighboring churches from June 14, 1986 to February 20, 1988.

 

The Lord saw fit to bless us with a beautiful structure of our own. The first Sabbath in our new facility took place on February 27, 1988. We marched from the previously rented Shalom Baptist Church at 10th & Rockland Streets to New Life Seventh-day Adventist Church on 4726 Old York Road. The ribbon cutting took place at 9:15A.M. before the Divine Worship service that began at 11A.M. The officiating conference representative was Elder Alfred Johnson. Our principal speaker was none other than Elder Charles Jenkins.

 

New Life has increased -- by way of Personal Bible studies, Revelation Seminars, tent meetings, crusades, revivals, radio ministry, transfers, and much much prayer -- to a membership of nearly 300.  Due to the recent COVID Pandemic our physical have decreased, while at the same time our reach has expanded to a worldwide audience by way of our social media platforms.

The Community Center started in 1989. In our Community Center we have:

-Weekly Regeneration Meetings

-A successful free food and clothing distribution program

-A weekly meal for the homeless

-"Pray and Weigh" ministry for the health conscious individuals.
